Autumn 2026 - Collection Update

There is a particular point in a collection when the paintings begin to talk to one another. I’m there now with The Gentle Thread.

There are eight paintings planned for ‘The Gentle Thread’
and I expect the collection to be completed in Spring 2027.

For now, it is still very much a story in progress.

The first paintings have established their own language. The pale blue and silver thread, areas of transparency, softened colour and figures that seem to move between strength and vulnerability. But as each new painting develops, I’m finding I don’t want to repeat that language too literally.

Sometimes what connects a collection is not what you can immediately see.

At the moment the studio is full of works at different stages: finished paintings, developing paintings, notes, photographs and the inevitable collection of brushes and containers of tubes. I’m working slowly, allowing each painting to find its own place within the wider story.
