April 25

It all begins with an idea.

Hi, welcome to my first blog!

I have just finished my latest collection of paintings on Human Connection which feels a wonderful sense of achievement. I was influenced by Gustav Klimt and Louis Majorelle for these paintings. It was the way Klimt, divided painting composition up, into squares and then lines, patterns and florals. I wanted to give this a go as well as the curves in Art Nouveau. I liked the idea of creating a raised tactile painting with beading dividing up areas and cutting out curves and circles in wood and sticking and clamping them down onto the painting. I really got absorbed in it, it was a really explorative set of paintings and has encouraged me to go further and try new directions.

As we speak I am currently creating a selection of small bijou paintings for an exhibition I have at the end of May. (Folkestone Art Society ‘The Small Art Show 23 May - 2nd June 2025, Gallery 66 The Old High Street.) These are single dancers with a freedom feel. This is new for me as I normally paint much larger and the way that I tackled the paint for the background was simple, freeing and calming. I definitely think I will do some more with a similar vibe later in the year.

And next?

I have just finished a photoshoot, for the next set of paintings, with a high fashion theme, lots of clothing changes, mirrors……….. its evolving, I’ll keep you posted!

Much love

May 25

It all begins with an idea.

The four small paintings for ‘The Small Art show are now finished. Yay! I am now framing them, in white, which complements well, the seasidy feel. So all progressing forward for the exhibition in Folkestone, ready for the end of May.

The next job on my list is to get some cards printed. Now I haven’t done this before, and it is proving to be a bit of a headache, learning how this all bolts together is taking time. I’ve bought a carousel to display them on and I’m hoping to get them delivered to me by the end of the month in readiness for the South East Open Studios in June.

So yes! I will be taking part in the South East Open Studios this year! This is a first for me, and it has been lovely meeting other members taking part, and taking on board their tips and knowledge of previous years Open Studios. Signing up took place in December, website details have now been finalised; booklets and leaflets have now been collected for distribution; and now I am sorting out paintings ready for display.

Ooh and I managed to roll my ankle over whilst visiting my local art shop, while this is all going on, ho ho, so I have been out of action for a few days, but its fine, I’m beginning to hobble about now.

Speak soon

Much love
